18-hour Suits
Written by Hannah Tan
Wednesday, 07 January 2009

Still on the subject of Thailand, have you heard of the tailor-made suits you can make within 18 hours or less, and costing only a fraction of what you would normally pay in KL? *wink*

There are tonnes of shops like these in Bangkok, or Thailand for that matter. Depending on the type of material, you can even get a whole suit with 2 extra shirts for less than RM500! Made to measure too! Oh and I have a confession to make – I overloaded on ice-cream during NY….! Hehe…

I don’t suggest Bangkok as a relaxing holiday destination in particular, but if you happen to be in town, an interesting outdoor dining/chill-out spot would be Talay, which is located next to Radisson Hotel or Long Beach.

Although the place serves pork, there are also non-pork dishes which are pretty tasty. Well, by my standards at least... *laugh*

A must have for drinks on the other hand is the coconut shake/blend which you will not find on the menu. *laugh* You’ll have to ask the waiter for it, but trust me, you WON’T regret it. Simply heavenly!

Fire in Santika Club, Bangkok
Written by Hannah Tan
Saturday, 03 January 2009

I reckon most of you heard about the fire incident in Bangkok which took place about an hour after the New Year’s Eve countdown, which was all over the news. I must say it was a close call indeed as some of the friends who were with me Bangkok were in that very building when the incident took place. The other half of the group (myself included) were too tired to party so shortly after the countdown, we were already tucked in bed and all set for la-la-land. So fortunate…!

Although the deaths from that fire included a Singaporean, Japanese and several Aussies, no Malaysians were reported to be affected or injured, thank God. The friends who were in the building when the fire broke out said that it was a terrifying experience indeed. According to them, it started off by live wires causing sparks (which they initially thought were part of the New Year countdown pyro show) that set off a blaze which engulfed the entire building within minutes. Reports from yesterday morning stated that the charred remains of 59 bodies were found and yet to be identified while many others were injured, either from burns and cuts or from being stepped on by the stampede of people that were rushing towards the exit.

What’s most daunting is the fact that it was a non-smoking club and there were at least 2 large exits from the building. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be caught in a fire in a club like Velvet where only one small main exit exists, not discounting the fact that a slight mishandling of a cigarette could set off a fire, especially when alcohol bottles are all around you. Think about it.

At the end of the day, I suppose it’s the shocking moments like these that make you realize how valuable life is, and boy, what a way to kick-start 2009. I thank God the friends that were in Santika are still alive and unharmed as they managed to escape in time, but my condolences to the families of the deceased.

Happy New Year!
Written by Hannah Tan
Wednesday, 31 December 2008

A brand new year, a brand new start. Time to reflect on 2008 and thank God for His grace for the year and of course, an extra year ahead to make the difference with what we have, regardless of religion or beliefs. *smile*

I’m grateful for each and every one of you here, one ones I proudly call my online family *wink*, for your unconditional love, support, encouragement and prayers, which certainly made the difference in my life and career. I'm also proud to say that as a family here, we have successfully bridged all geographical, racial, cultural and religious barriers (not to mention age! *laugh*), enriching and impacting one another's lives in a positive way. *smile* You have no idea how much it means to me to have you wonderful and sincere people standing by me and holding my hand despite the circumstances, especially in the toughest of times. You have never failed me. In fact you have been my pillar of strength and my source of comfort, a very significant part of my life indeed. *smile*

Thank you so much for being a part of my life and my dreams. Thank you for sharing the vision and for running with me on this journey. Above all, thank you for believing in me despite the odds. You’ve made me feel so special, so loved, so appreciated. To you, I’m most grateful. Thank you so very much. *smile* Big hugs for a great new beginning for each and every one of you. Love you lots. *smile* Happy New Year from Bangkok! Let's say a prayer for one another as we embrace yet another year of challenges and hopefully, exponential growth. *wink* Also, don't forget to share your thoughts here on how you plan to make the difference in 2009 ya... It makes the difference when you have people to support you, even virtually. I'm a testament to that. *smile*

Covering 35 acres of land with over 15,000 stalls and more than 200,000 visitors every Saturday and Sunday, the Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is the mother of all markets – and possibly one of the biggest and most famous markets in the world.

You can find almost anything and EVERYTHING here – from food and household goods, to clothes, accessories and even animals! *laugh* A must-visit for first timers in Bangkok, Chatuchak will give you a no-frills budget shopping experience that requires high tolerance to crowds, heat and congestion. *laugh*

Here I am in Bangkok to give you the best of what this city has to offer – food, as always, will not be left out. *laugh* I just paid my 500 baht daily subscription to give you this post and to tell you how much I miss you guys. It’s been a hectic year-end for me but I’m grateful for internet access which allows me to stay in touch. *laugh* Thank God for technology ya… *laugh*

Visitors and tourists were advised against wearing red and yellow today amidst the political unrest. I’m off work today so may just stay in just to be safe. Will keep the pictures coming in though so stay tuned! Mwaahhhhhhhhhh~
