It’s
been a week of madness since I got back from Japan. Following the PC to wrap ‘H’
Factor and announce my move, I have not had the chance to breathe. *laugh*
Literally. And before I flew out of KL on Saturday morning, I hadn’t slept in 72 hours. Zombie indeed. *laugh* I’m spending this week in KK for work before I fly off to Manila, Bangkok and straight to
Japan in January 2009. Year-ends are always the busiest period but I guess in
some ways being busy this year-end is good, because it helps take my mind off
the fact that I’m actually moving… that way I don’t feel so sad…
Sad for having to be so far from the people most significant to me… yet I’m
actually rather excited to spend the next 2 years trying to expand my base
regionally and at the same time open more doors for our talented Malaysian
youth to venture into the Japanese market. The business expansion to Japan will be a paradigm shift for
me as I challenge myself to share the government’s vision of building the
K-economy, which among other things involves the proper application of knowledge and ICT.
Well,
brave move, some may say. Crazy is what others think. Yet, I believe this
challenge I’ve set for myself will lead to a pivotal point in my life and
career – a paradigm shift. I want to see how far I can take the HannahTan
brand, one which I believe is truly Malaysian. I have so much to learn and
a long LONGGGG way to go before I achieve something really significant
with the brand but I believe that with all the hard work put in together with
the support from all you wonderful people, a difference can be made. *smile*
I’m
inspired by visionaries like Zang Toi,
Dato Michelle Yeoh, Dato Jimmy Choo, Dato Tony
Fernandes and many more who have taken the initiative to
create the global visibility for our country through the pioneering of a brand for themselves, in their
respective fields. The power to make the
difference for our country is not just in the hands of our political leaders.
It’s in each and every one of us. Just like an enzyme, it catalyses the reaction,
but what we choose to do with it is entirely up to us. *smile*
Regional
expansion. Why Japan,
many ask?
Well,
I believe that there’s so much to learn
from Japan
as world leaders in digitech innovations and now, entertainment. With the new
wave of anime spreading across Europe and US,
it is only evident that Asians have what it takes to lead in that sector. Malaysia being
an Asian hub for creative content and entertainment is not impossible, yet it
isn’t going to happen overnight. By doing what we can as individuals, we can make the difference for our country,
one contribution at a time. I pray that more young Malaysians will undertake
the challenge of equipping themselves as the K-generation, and consequently
strive to contribute to Malaysia’s
GDP in whatever way we can. *smile*
Instead of waiting on the
government to spoon-feed us with the corresponding information and
infrastructure to build the relevant skills, why don’t we take the proactive option
of acquiring what we can by maximizing our existing resources, regardless of
how insignificant others may think it is? It doesn’t hurt to start small but it
hurts to think small.
My question to you guys is
how you think you’ll be able to contribute to the K-economy? *wink* Share your
thoughts with me k… *smile*

A very busy bee! Hahaha…waiting for this bee to sting me someday! *winks*
Totally agree with u, H…It’s all about taking risks and hardwork. There is no pregression if we really on spoon feeds, unless of course you make full use of it. Just because we lack in material resources does not mean we should jst lament on our shortfalls, but try to make full use of what we have at our desposal. Success is built by working hard and working towards a goal and I respect you for taking the initiative to go to Japan. It has, proven successfull for local artistes like Sheila Majid, Ning Baizura & Pop Shuvit to name a few, and I wish you all the success in your Japanese adventure. Like you said, it hurts to think small. There is no harm in thinking big, and take small steps towards our personal goals. One small step for man, one giant step for mankind, eh?
Even if we fail in doing something, at least we know we tried. There will be no regrets. I think our current generation are too pampered. We all just have to start being proactive. And that, my dear Hannah, as you have done, is the first step.
ManOfManchesterUtd, thanks for sharing your thoughts. *smile* Totally agree with you. *smile*
TK, THank you so much for the gift. Very sweet of you and very sorry for not being able to meet you personally for that. Very true on what you said about the gaming culture in Japan. Maybe that will be something YOU can do for our country? Encourage the contribution to our GDP via gaming sector. Just need to do extensive research on that to find out what makes it so successful in the other countries and try to localize the concept in Malaysia. *smile* Not easy, but that’s the whole point of a challenge. *Wink*
ManOfManchesterUtd, are you new with us? *smile* SOrry didn’t notice, but if you are, welcome to the family! *grin* Which part of the country are you from? *smile*
hey H…I’m not totally new – a frequent visitor to HannahTan.com, but have only jst recently registered
Have visited once in a while to catch up with your activities of late and it was a delightful surprise to find out that you are setting yourself a challenge to tackle the Japanese market…a small girl with big ambitions (and who is not afraid of challenging herself, eh?) But tht shouldn’t be a surprise considering that you started from zero and reached this point in your career…kudos! Before, I used to see you around PJ – @ One Utama, TTDI…but not lately, and now I knw why…*grin*
I’m sure you have a very capable team and I’m sure you have done your homework before even taking that first trip to Japan to globalise the Malaysia brand that is Hannah Tan (totally agree that it is truly Malaysian since you are of Chi & Kelabit parentage). I am aware that a lot of Japanese people understand the Malaysian culture, so it is, to me, one market that Malaysians should really venture into.
Well, to answer your question – I’m from Kuching, born & bred (yay! we have something in common, well 50%, *LOL*). Got out from my shell and came here to cari makan…:) Yea, so I guess you are more a KL girl than a Kuching girl, aren’t you? Spent most of your life here…I’m looking forward to the hols and going back Kuching to celebrate Xmas with the fams…too bad you can’t come over for a vist…:D
hannah FINALLY got time to reply
:p hehe
H has been a busy lady since she won her title. =p Know which one, guys & girls? Now she’s trying to fit her 48hours into 24hrs.. lol… H, you better get a 100plus & get at least some rest. I know time has limits in us, health too. =) Btw, wish you the best as more in the future. You’ve done alot since last year. Hope to catch you one day… at MidValley Häagen-Dazs. This time, my treat… pls.
oH…. Before H goes of busy & the rest of H fans go running around for Christmas celeb, I wanna wish everyone… MERRY CHRISTMAS (in advance. ahem.)!!!
CS, are you working at Haagan Daaz? *grin* Thank you so very much! Very kind of you. *smile* If I told you I once ate 45 scoops of Haagan Daaz in 2 hours at an ice cream buffet would you change your mind? *laugh*
ManOfManchesterUtd, my parents live in Kuching, and yes, really unfortunate that I can\’t be there for Christmas. Thank God they came over to KL earlier this month before I left. Kuching is a great place. Very laid back. *smile* And thanks for the encouragement. Means a lot and trust me, it sure makes a difference in taking me through with the extra mile. *smile*
Adli, hope you are well. *smile*
Plans for the year-end anyone? It\’s ok, you can rub it in. *laugh*
H, Still in KK? Had any shut eye eyet? muahaha
My plans for the hols? Kolo Mee & Tomato Kuey Tiaw (I’ve had friends here who cringe hearing that – “Tomato Kuey Tiaw?? Ewww, what’s that?”)…:) Delicious! I haven’t had good old Kuching Kolo Mee in a while…looking forward to that…other than tht, having a peaceful Xmas with my fams is all I have. Nothing too grand, but I wish I was in Japan though! Kuching IS a very laidback & peaceful city and it’s a great retreat for me, away from KL/PJ.
Big things really do come in small packages huh? In your case, big ice cream eater…:p I think it would be so darn cute watching u gobble up ice cream…it’s a sinful delight…an ice cream during a cold weather is so satisfying for me…hahaha…yes, when it rains…
Well, H, you may not be with your family this Xmas, but I do hope you have a fun Xmas…n if u come back to KL soon and I just MIGHT save you a pack of kolo mee…*evil laugh*
