One of the highlights of my Perth
trip is the visit to the zoo. *grin* I love LOVE animals, so the zoo is always
a treat for me. Believe it or not, I’ve actually been to Zoo Negara more than 3 times. Haha.
Well, I definitely had a ball
at the Perth Zoo with some rather
interesting items of nature. I can’t fit everything into 1 post, so here’s part
1 of my National Geographic adventure. Haha. Enjoy…
This humungous thing is the Galapagos Tortoise which is reaching a
length of 1.5 metres. It’s obviously the largest of all tortoise species and is
believed to be able to out-live all the other animal species. Found only on the
Galapagos Islands (Ecuador),
these herbivores spend their day grazing and sun baking. Haha. The oldest of
this species is now 179 years old! Talk about longevity! Haha.
The African Painted Dog is an endangered species weighing 17 – 36kgs.
It feeds on medium-sized herbivores like antelopes and zebras…
Now this is a sausage tree! Hehe.
It produces large, reddish-purple flowers and wooden sausage-shaped fruits,
which can weigh up to 4kgs! Many parts of the tree are eaten by different
animals and although the fresh fruit is poisonous, it can be dried, roasted or
fermented for use as a herbal medicine or to make alcohol. *wink*
Ghosts Bats are the largest of Australia’s microbats. They spend most of the
day resting in caves, mines or deep rock crevices, and hunt at night. Males and
females live in separate colonies during the breeding season and females only
give birth to one young a year. They eat large insects, frogs, lizards, birds
and small mammals, thankfully not humans. Haha…

Wooo tat Ghost Bat looks cool =)
