Perth Zoo (Part II)

4.55am and time to share the rest
of my lil’ adventure at the zoo with you. Hehe. Pardon my excitement ya… Haha.
For the first time in my life I saw live koalas, and boy are they lazy animals.
Haha. Cute though. They seem to have this amazing ability to hug a branch and
just sleep! Haha.

And from koalas we move on to
penguins! Hehe. There are many different species of penguins and these ones in
particular are the Little Penguins.
Literally. Haha. Did you know that Little
Penguins
swim between 15 – 20km a day and are able to stay at sea for
several weeks at a time?

Now these lil’ things are called
the Motorbike Frogs. Hehe. Yep.
Apparently they got their name from their call, which sounds just like a
motorbike changing gears. Strange but true…

From the little animals, we move
on to the ones that have reputations of being the largest, longest and oldest.
This is the Perentie, Australia’s largest lizard and the world’s
second largest after the Komodo Dragon
(found in Indonesia).

The world’s longest snake is what
you see now. Known as the Reticulated
Python
, this non-venomous snake can grow up to 10 metres long by feeding on
deer, pigs, birds, rats and large lizards. Amazingly, Reticulated Pythons are able to swim in the open ocean, moving from
island to island, which helped them colonise the islands of SEA (south-east Asia). And believe it or not, females can lay over 100
eggs at a time?!

Finally, I present to you, the Estuarine Crocodile, one of the largest
predators on earth! This particular one is 60 years old, weighs 400 – 500 kgs
and is 4.5 metres long (almost 3 times my height!). This one is big and scary,
yet fascinating. To me, at least. Haha. Look how huge he is! Oh and the zoo
named him Simmo, BTW. *laugh*

Maybe you are right…a visit to a zoo outside Malaysia may rekindle my interests in zoos. Hahaha but I can’t help feel a bit of sympathy for the animals being confined in a very small habitat. I would most probably like to visit an animal reserve…especially in Africa :) care to join? hehehe now that would really be a visit to remember – seeing animals in their natural habitat *winks*
