Happy Labour Day everyone!
*smile* Long weekend for most of you so enjoy it while you can ya~ Haha. I know
the eve of a public holiday usually marks an excuse to party for most, but for
me, I reckon I have an even better excuse not to hit the clubs. Haha. My ENT
specialist recently diagnosed me of Chronic Pharyngitis which worsens with the
exposure to cigarette smoke, especially in enclosed areas. The last sore throat
I had lasted for months, and after a few more similar occurrences (which not even
antibiotics could cure), I decided to seek help from a specialist this trip back. That was when I realized that over the years, I had developed
an allergy to cigarette smoke, because of my throat condition – something I had
overlooked, especially being in an industry where almost everyone around me
smokes. I suppose sensitivity increases with age, since I never had a problem
with 2nd hand cigarette smoke when I was much younger! Haha.
Oh well, no regrets now that I
have finally discovered that root of the problem. Just have to take extra care now,
since it’s going to affect my livelihood. Haha. Japan has pretty hi-tech face
masks which will come in handy (there are some which can even filter off
SARS!), so when I get back to Tokyo I’ll make sure I take a pic of my new
facial accessory for you k! Haha.
Oh and now with the Swine Flu outbreak, make sure
you take preventive measures by washing your hands thoroughly (including your
finger-nails) with alcohol based gel like hand sanitizers as often as you can
to destroy viruses and bacteria which can linger on tabletops, telephones and
other surfaces and transferred via the fingers to the mouth, nose or eyes. Also,
if you have with flu-like symptoms such as a sudden fever, cough or muscle
aches you should stay away from work or public transportation and see a doctor immediately
ok? *smile* Better safe than sorry… *smile*
Anyways, I Google-d “Labour Day”
and guess what I found out? Believe it or not, some countries have a holiday
preceding Labour Day on April 30th, and some even have May 2nd as a
holiday too! So nice ya… Haha. Well, I suppose this year, it wouldn’t make much
of a difference since May 1st falls on the brink of a weekend, so
let’s just be gratefully happy this year and perhaps try to convince our new PM
to consider an extra day next year?! Haha. Kids, if you want an extra day off from school, ask your parents to move to Slovenia! Haha. Enjoy the weekend guys, and say hi
to your families for me~ *smile* Love you!
God Bless and big hugs! xxx

Causes of Pharyngitis:
Pharyngitis is usually caused by respiratory viruses such as rhinovirus, coronavirus, adenovirus, influenza, and parainfluenza viruses. The most common concern is infection due to group A betahemolytic streptococci, because of the associated, preventable risk of rheumatic fever. Other common causes include Mycoplasma and Chlamydia. A host of other bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spirochetes have also been identified as etiologic agents. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a rare cause of pharyngitis.
Special considerations and Prevention tips of Pharyngitis:
1. Administer analgesics and warm saline gargles as appropriate.
2. Encourage the patient to drink plenty of fluids. Monitor intake and output scrupulously, and watch for signs of dehydration. Assess skin turgor, mucous membranes and, in young children, tearing.
3. Provide meticulous mouth care to prevent dry lips and oral pyoderma, and maintain a restful environment.
4. Elevate the patient’s head with three or four pillows.
5. Obtain throat cultures, and administer antibiotics as required if the patient has acute bacterial pharyngitis.
6. Teach the patient with chronic pharyngitis how to minimize sources of throat irritation in the environment, such as using a bedside humidifier.
7. Refer the patient to a self-help group to stop smoking, if appropriate.
8. In severe cases, anesthetic gargles and lozenges (such as benzocaine) may provide additional symptomatic relief.
Stress to patients the importance of completing the 10-day course of antibiotics regardless of symptom response. Patients are presumed to be noninfectious after 24 hours of antibiotic coverage.
Hey Hannah Hannah Bobanna Bananarama Bobeena, hehe, you left out your last line – This has been a public service announcement courtesy of Hygiene Awareness Network & National Association of Health (HANNAH). Hahaha! *laugh*
On a more serious note, don’t play play with Pharyngitis, some more you have a Chronic “title” in front… Now that more people know you’re allergic, it’s their duty to avoid smoking around you and let others in her circle know too. You hear that, guys?!
FYI, the labor day for the USA is celebrated on a different than us. With lots of barbecues and pool parties! Woohoo!!! Hehe, anyways, you go have yourself a well deserved rest and hope you recuperate quick. Erm… I don’t know if my family knows you but… I’ll say hi to them for you anyhow… *giggle*
Bearh hugs and GOD bless ya too~!
… if you want, I can be cheer you up. I can be your water boy.. lol =) Hang tough. Things will get better. We have to keep our faith incheck, it has always been a test for us. How we can overcome things w/o doing crazy stuff (which we read in newspaper.)
Let us take that challenge and rise above it, Hannah.
wow.. i didn’t know that… well, i’m moving to Slovenia soon. haha. swine flu-horrible disease. will keep my hands clean from nowadays. take the picture of the SARS free mask! haha. stop smoking people! Hannah is sick… that could be the title for an anti-smoking campaign. haha.
Adli dont SMOKE nor DRINK unlike other malays :p he’s clean. SERIOUSLY!!!
i think i can understand why Hannah’s allergy was up. Japan kan cold whether at times.. so when ppl are cold, they tend to puff to feel warmer. But smokers basically are ‘sucking’ nicotine and the stuff u find on freshly tar roads. =.=” (now why the heck they wanna do that…adoi…. i rather suck a lollipop la :p)
haaaa…labour day… makes no difference here in KL if it falls on a freaking friday.. =.=”
btw, i REALLY like this close-up shot of Hannah ^^ doesnt show her PANDA look
Seriously, a singer biggest asset is their voice. So, don’t lose it. Take good care of it. Say, even manukan honey can’t help this time?
btw, teoh chin siew, tip no. 3 : provide meticulous mouth care… does french kiss included? hehe…
I had a hard Labour Day. Cleaned 2 toilets. Fuuuhhh…
damn I don’t like smokers too as I also get headaches when cigarette smoke is near me >_
some like it, some dont, some irritated by it, some are used to it… different ppl have different ways of taking in the “fresh air” of the puff… But, the only puffs i like is the REDCURRENT PUFFS from Marks & Spencer and CURRY PUFF (kari pap)!!! now those are DOPE kinda puffs that are worth buying!!!
Hi Hannah
Ohhh poor you dear, not feeling too well. been running here and there must be part of it. should just take sometime out, forget the world, forget the people. on the smoky side of things, you know your parameter, just stay within. people cant change their habits*, but hannah can, choose to sit far and away from the smokes. * in your case i’m sure people will change, just for you.
please take photo of the face maskS, I’m sure they (japanese) come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and designs. Thats why they have “Masked Rider”. maybe can start e-selling a personalised hannah’s and the rest of the mask here. The mask shop. It’ll be a bomb. Especially the H1N1 flu is out and about. You never know whats coming, the truth is out there…
ok babe, take care, have a speedy recovery and stop smoking (second hand). Its not worth it.
cheerio : )
WALIAU!!!! i missed the part where Hannah ACUALLY smoked!!! OMG lo… i thought she was CLEAN.. HAH! now i know….
Haha. I didn’t know we had so many doctors and medical advisors on board. Haha. Thanks for the tip and concern guys. So sweet la you. *smile*
Adli, if second hand smoking counts then yes. Haha. I guess that could be the reason why I never got into actual cigarette smoking – had enough second hand smoke to kill my lungs already. Haha. Now my throat. Aiks. BTW, the M&S fruit puffs are not too bad, gotta agree with you on that. Haha. High five~
GW, I get that too! Haha. Headaches. Now I don’t feel so left out. Haha. Used to think my body was weird because of that but you just made me feel better. Thanks! Haha.
Esquire, I’m ok. Just the throat, thanks for your concern. *smile* Will take your advice and enjoy as much smoke-free air as I can while I can. Haha. I reckon those Japanese masks will do me good. Haha.
Marv, thanks and Manuka honey will help to a certain extent, but I guess there’s no cure to my condition…but it’s ok. *smile* Will just have to be extra careful now la… Haha. Oh and French kissing? Haha. Hope you enjoyed toilet-cleaning. Your other half must feel lucky to have such a domesticated man. Such a rarity! Haha. Keep up the good work Marv! *grin*
Shaun, take me with you!!!! Haha. And thanks for the anti-smoking campaign idea. Haha. I reckon it’ll work better with Beyonce or Britney though… Haha. I reckon even a chain smoker would quit for super-star hotties like that. Kementrian Kesihatan should put that into consideration. Haha.
Doctor CS, you’re the sweetest. *smile* Thanks for the tips, and for your kind encouraging words. *smile* Water boy? Can’t afford you la… Haha.
Doctor Jerome! *smile* Public service announcement alright! Haha. So creative you. Haha. Thanks for the advice. Oh and did you manage to do the US Labour Day celebration ritual this time round? Hehe. I can’t remember the last time I had a BBQ! Haha.
Hope you guys had a good weekend. *smile* Managed to catch up on my paperwork this weekend so very happy. Check out the latest post k. Chat there. Mwah~
