Have you guys ever seen a square watermelon before? *grin* Well, I haven’t until NOW, thanks to the very cool yet humble Japanese Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Masahiko Horie. Can you believe it?! Hahaha… Simply amazing don’t you think? Trust the Japanese to innovate something like this. *wink*
It all began 20 years ago when a brilliant farmer on Japan‘s south-western island of Shikoku came up with a solution to deal with the challenges of storing this typically round fruit in the fridge. He figured that having a square-shaped fruit would not only make it easier for cutting (since it won’t roll around so much) but also help vendors maximize on storage space. Genius! Haha.
But how did he do it? Well, the answer was in the specially-made cubic-shaped glass boxes in which the melons were forced to grow in. *wink* Catapulting to global popularity, the square watermelon has become a symbol of Japan’s appetite for novelty and innovation, and naturally, the foreign media were just as captivated as I was with this Japanese technological oddity. Haha. Yet again, all special things come with a price, and with this square wonder, it seems almost exponential since the average fruit costs at least 10,000 yen (around RM400)! Ripley’s had better add this to it’s collection… *laugh*
Can they make a H with it?? It will be special for you then.. Hannah Watermelon (Wo De Mei Ren aka My Pretty Lady).. Cool Right??
its actually an irony. if u think it thru, square is a representation of boring stuff. however, this fruit defers that perception
just a random note *smiles*
I think that’s a really good idea.
Btw Hannah, Don’t cut off first.. I wanna have a look of it ! Then we makan sama-sama
Can I have that… =) Sorry that I missed out alot there. Been busy with work.. lol. I do MISS Hannah, ok. =p
