Today I’m gonna take you on a virtual tour to one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo. Known as one of the ‘low-towns’ building-wise, Asakusa is in fact one of the oldest in Japan with some major parts of the town destroyed in the air raids of World War Two.

The main attraction in this town is the Sensoji Temple (built in the 7th century) with its big arched entrance being a must-take photo spot. With a pedestrian street lined up with souvenir and typical Japanese food shops, visitors like us can never leave unamused. *laugh*

For those who particularly enjoy eating the Japanese rice cracker biscuits, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see how they actually make it, not to mention enjoy having a taste of a freshly made cracker, just like mum did. *smile*

Since food is something that always keeps me happy, I have to share my enthusiasm with you on the discovery of a rather small but famous ‘kakiage’ shop right at the corner of a street near the temple. I don’t think it could possibly fit more than 16 customers at one time but it sure does serve one of the yummiest Japanese meals you could possibly find on that particular street. *grin*

For those who have no clue what ‘kakiage’ is, think ‘tempura’, but in a lump of bite-sized seafood and vegetable pieces battered and deep-fried to perfection, topped with a slightly sweetened thick sauce. A typical ‘kakiage’ set meal would consist of the battered seafood on top of rice, with a bowl of miso soup and pickles on the side, and if you think the Japanese eat small portions to maintain their size, you’re wrong! Haha. The 3 of us ended up sharing a portion for 2 – consisting of a tempura and ‘kakiage’ set. Mind you, we’re stuffed! Haha.

In the next post I wanna take you with me to Yokohama’s Sea Paradise to check out the white dolphins! Hehe. Stay tuned! *grin*
